New Centers to Open by Fall
Despite its more than 70-year existence, the
Blue Ridge Parkway has never had a facility that
informs visitors about how this spectacularly
scenic route came to be or about the very
special natural and cultural resources that are
along the 469-mile corridor. Now that
deficiency is about to be remedied.
The nearly 12,000-square foot Destination Center at Asheville will also feature exhibits about the Parkway, including its natural wonders. Many are interactive and engaging for both children and adults. Be sure to spend the 20 or so minutes to watch the original motion picture that highlights the Parkway and the region with some dramatic footage. If you’re just beginning your Parkway journey, a stop at the Destination Center is a must. Exhibits, publications, and knowledgeable staff will help you plan your travels in western North Carolina. There’s so much to see and do, and the Parkway makes a great road to discovery.
If
you’re planning to visit before this center open later this year, don’t fret.
It’ll be here for you when you come again. And, of course, there is always the main attraction. While these new facilities will enhance your visit, the Parkway keeps on extending its decade-old invitation to come camp, picnic, hike and, of course, enjoy in the vistas that are its enduring hallmarks.
