“Soldier’s Pride” is the name quilter Karen Dever gave to the the patriotic handmade quilt she has generously donated as a fund-raiser raffle for The Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas. Raffle tickets are now on sale at the museum for $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00. Also, Dever’s book, Soldier’s Pride & More is for sale (a limited supply) at the museum for $20. Dever is a resident of Moorestown, N.J., and will be in Brevard June 14 at 11am to present a free program on quilting. She is a frequent speaker on quilting and has published quilt patterns in “McCalls,” “For the Love of Quilting,” and “Quilter’s Newsletter.”

Theater Premieres in Banner Elk, NC

For its 13th summer season, Ensemble Stage brings four premieres to Hahn Auditorium at the Historic Banner Elk School. The professional theater company performs a world premiere, an international premiere and two regional premieres.
“Usually places like Chicago, New York, Miami and San Francisco get world premieres,” says Gary Smith, artistic director for Ensemble Stage. “It’s really cool that our 99-seat professional theater in a small mountain town in North Carolina is doing this type of show.”

2022 USA Cycling Amateur Road National Championships – Criterium

Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge, the County of Botetourt and the City of Roanoke are thrilled to be the host communities for this national cycling championship.
A criterium or “crit” is a lapped bicycle race on a closed circuit set in cities. Fans are encouraged to join us to catch the action live and cheer on the athletes all along the downtown Roanoke criterium race course.

See Art in the Heart of Banner Elk at Four Summer Shows

Four times this summer, Art on the Greene brings original artwork in a variety of media to the green at the Historic Banner Elk School. Located in the center of this small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the shows create an idyllic setting for meeting artists, admiring their work and shopping for handmade pieces.
The two-day shows take place on the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend May 28-29; July Fourth weekend, July 2-3; the first weekend of August, Aug. 6-7; and Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-4.

Spirit of America: Independence Day Celebration

Help us ring in Independence Day by spending the day at a house that saw the beginning of a new nation! Enjoy house tours, shop in our Museum Store & observe artillery displays by Giles Artillery.

At 6:00pm, gather for an Independence Day Ceremony featuring traditional excerpts from the Declaration of Independence and Frederick Douglass, followed by a rousing cannon fire salute. Enjoy flavored shaved ice and food from our vendors: Aloha Eddie's Shaved Ice and Sam's Hot Dogs, and enjoy a patriotic concert by The Blacksburg Community Band, immediately following the Independence Day Ceremony at 6:30pm.
Tickets can be purchased on site at the time of the event. $7.00/person grants site admission. Kids 5yrs and under are free.

Summer Concert Series at the Blue Ridge Music Center

The Blue Ridge Music Center’s Roots of American Music concerts are held most Saturdays—from Memorial Day through Labor Day—in the natural, terraced, outdoor amphitheater. Musical programming is managed and coordinated by the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, the primary nonprofit fundraising partner of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
